A joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) and Farakka police in Murshidabad district led to the seizure of counterfeit currency worth ₹4.97 lakh. The raid took place late night near the New Farakka bus stand following reports of suspicious activity in the area. During the search, all recovered notes were found to be in ₹500 denominations.
Two persons were arrested in connection with the case. Police identified the accused as Mohammad Jafar and Khalek Sheikh. Both were produced before the Jangipur court on Monday, where police filed a petition requesting 10 days’ custody to interrogate the suspects further. The authorities said the arrested individuals were taken into protective custody to facilitate ongoing investigations.
Police confirmed that the seized currency was part of a counterfeit operation. They are investigating potential links to larger networks and tracing the origin of the fake notes. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and further details will be released as the probe progresses.
